The Capitals emerged victorious against the Rangers after a fierce contest, achieving a 4-2 win. Washington saw goals from John Carlson, Anthony Mantha, and Sonny Milano, while both of New York's goals came from Artemi Panarin.
Carlson started the scoring with a wrist shot from the point during the first period. Mantha increased the lead in the second period with a power-play goal, and Milano sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the third period. For the Rangers, Panarin scored in the second and third periods, momentarily equalizing the game.
Capitals' goalie Darcy Kuemper recorded 28 saves, whereas Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers made 33 saves. Washington showed dominance in the face-off circle, winning 65% of the draws, and also had a 34-22 advantage in shots on goal.
With this win, the Capitals improve to a record of 24-12-6 for the season, while the Rangers' record changes to 22-12-7. The teams are set for another matchup on Friday in Washington.
