Georgia Tech emerged victorious against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, excelling in the rushing game and capitalizing on six turnovers to achieve a 21-17 win.
The Yellow Jackets amassed 238 rushing yards, while the Tar Heels could only gather 47 yards on the ground. Jordan Mason spearheaded the effort for Georgia Tech with 100 yards and a score.
Drake Maye, North Carolina's quarterback, passed for 316 yards and a touchdown, but he was also intercepted three times and lost a fumble. The Tar Heels compounded their issues with two special teams turnovers, allowing Georgia Tech to control field position.
Georgia Tech's defense played superbly, forcing three turnovers in the opening half of the game. They picked off Maye twice and recovered a fumble, turning those opportunities into 10 points.
The Tar Heels' offensive unit struggled with consistency, particularly in the latter half. They went three-and-out on their initial three drives of the third quarter and failed to convert on downs twice during the fourth quarter.
Georgia Tech dominated ball possession, controlling it for nearly 40 minutes and successfully converting 10 of their 19 third-down attempts. Their offensive strategy was both effective and strategic, taking full advantage of North Carolina's errors.
This victory halted a five-game winning streak for North Carolina, while maintaining Georgia Tech's aspirations for bowl eligibility. The Yellow Jackets' record improved to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the ACC, whereas the Tar Heels dropped to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in conference contests.
